Vision
Although many of us working at the mill have a long history with the building and have been here a long time- the newly formed Mickle Trafford Mill Charitable Trust is on a mission. We gained charitable status in 2019 and, after years of negotiating and working with United Utilities, we were able to purchase this beautiful site. The Trust aims to restore and maintain this historic mill and find an appropriate use for the structure that benefits the local community of Mickle Trafford and Chester. We aim to preserve the history of this special place and make it as accessible as we possibly can, ensuring that everyone can share in this part of Chester’s history. We wish to advance the education of the public in the history of the relationship between agriculture and industry and the vital role that mills played in historic societies.
Our team have been working hard to repair and maintain our precious mill, and share the history of the site with members of the local community and milling enthusiasts from around the world. Despite the tough times of recent years, our wonderful group of volunteers and our mill team are still here, and still working hard to help us achieve our shared vision. We have undertaken much needed emergency repairs to the mill building, we work to maintain the site and continue to provide community engagement events and heritage and environmental conservation activities for the local community.
We aim to continue this important work and further establish the mill as a centre for community activity; a community resource to help to improve the well-being of future generations of Mickle Trafford and Chester.
