Preserving Chester’s History of Agriculture and Industry

The Mickle Trafford Mill Charitable Trust was formed in 2019, with the aim of restoring Mickle Trafford Mill, an historic water mill dating to the 18th century.  We aim to restore the structure, to save this important example of an historic water mill for future generations.

The Trust is comprised of five board members with a wide range of skills in both environmental and heritage conservation.  We work with a team of dedicated local volunteers to host a variety of community activities, which provide education and social contact for young people and adults, many of whom have additional needs.

‘Repairing the milling machinery and bringing this building back to beneficial use will have a very positive impact on the mill and the village, as we have seen this at other mills. A mill can help strengthen a sense of local community and bring visitors from across the region. ‘

The complex of a double mill with a waterwheel at each end of the building, together with some well kept beautiful milling equipment, makes this mill unique and gives it a high historical and molinological value. Our Society fully supports the efforts undertaken by the Trafford Mill Trust to preserve the mill and use it as a centre for community activities.
